Beef CSA

Our beef CSA provides a selection of USDA certified, vacuum-packed, frozen beef delivered to your door once every two months.  We deliver to Deerfield, Whately, Sunderland, and parts of Greenfield, Amherst, Northampton, Conway and Hatfield.  If you are nearby, please ask.  Pickup also available.

Full Share:  $300 for 6 months

Bi-monthly deliveries (every other month) include 4 premium steaks, 8 pounds of ground beef, and 3 pounds of roast, stew beef, fajita steak, or kebab meat (rotating schedule).

Half Share:  $175 for 6 months

Bi-monthly deliveries (every other month) include 2 premium steaks, 4 pounds of ground beef, and 2 pounds of roast, stew beef, fajita steak, or kebab meat (rotating schedule).

Taco Tuesday Share:  $160 for 6 months

Bi-monthly deliveries (every other month) of 8 lbs of ground beef (in 1 lb packages).

What is a premium steak?

Premium steaks include tenderloin, ribeye, sirloin strip, porterhouse or t-bone. 

How is the beef packaged?

Beef is frozen and vacuum-packed in plastic.  Steaks and roasts are individually packaged.  Ground beef, stew beef and kebab meat comes in 1 pound packages.

How does delivery work?

Delivery occurs once every two months, generally during the day on a Friday.  The meat will be placed in a cooler that you provide, outside your home.  Email notice will be provided one week in advance and again one day in advance.  We also post delivery dates on Facebook.

We deliver to Deerfield, Whately, Sunderland, and parts of Greenfield, Amherst, Northampton, Conway and Hatfield.  If you are nearby, please ask.

Can I pick my beef up instead?

Yes.  We are open Saturdays from 9-12 and almost any other time by appointment.

How can I pay?

We take cash and checks.

When I join the CSA, how do I know which deliveries I will receive?

When you join the CSA for 6 months, you will receive the next three deliveries of beef.  For example, if you join in October, you will receive a delivery in November, January and March.  If you join soon after a delivery day, you can choose to receive a special delivery of the month you missed, or wait until the next regularly scheduled delivery.

Is Highland Beef healthier than other beef?

Yes!  Studies from the University of Glasgow show that Highland beef has about half the cholesterol and one-third the fat of other beef, and about one-third more iron and protein than other breeds.  Compare here the values for a sirloin steak:

Is Highland Beef really that tender?

Yes!  You will not typically see much marbling in Highland beef because the meat is so lean, but the tenderness is remarkable.  University of Glasgow studies show that pure Highland Beef is almost 23% more tender than commercial beef, scoring an 83.27 in a rapid slice shear force test.  A score of 100 is considered “very tender.”
